  • A tiny house with a big heart.

Tucked into the backyard of designer and Jungalow founder Justina Blakeney, the Casita is more than an 800-square-foot ADU. Designed as a home for her parents, it’s a celebration of multigenerational living, thoughtful small-space design, and the idea that home can be a layered, evolving sanctuary.

When it came time to choose the materials that would bring that vision to life, every detail mattered, including what went underfoot.

    Multigenerational by Design

The Casita was designed with family at its center: a place for Justina’s parents to settle into and make their own, while remaining connected to the rhythms of the larger family home just steps away.

That meant choosing a floor that could feel warm and natural from day one, but was made for everything still to come: everyday routines, family gatherings, grandkids running through the house, and years of life unfolding within its walls.

Hardwood felt at home in a space designed with that kind of longevity in mind, bringing the warmth and character of a natural material to a home meant to evolve alongside the family who lives there.

    800 Square Feet, Zero Compromise

In a smaller home, every material has an outsized impact. There’s less room for anything that doesn’t contribute to how the space looks, feels, and functions.

The wide planks of Flooret’s hardwood collections can help visually stretch a compact footprint, while natural grain and variation bring texture, movement, and character throughout the space.

Rather than treating 800 square feet as a limitation, the Casita embraces it as an opportunity to be more intentional: fewer materials, better materials, and thoughtful details that make every square foot count.

    Built to Outlast a Trend

Justina’s work has always celebrated homes that feel collected rather than decorated, spaces shaped by nature, travel, creativity, family, and the people who inhabit them.

That philosophy calls for materials that can evolve, too.

Real wood develops character over time, making it especially fitting for a home designed around generations rather than design cycles. It’s a material chosen for the long view: not just how the Casita will look when it’s finished, but how it will feel five, ten, or twenty years from now.

    Rooted in the Same Values

At the heart of the Jungalow aesthetic is a deep appreciation for nature, craftsmanship, and materials that feel alive. Those values made Flooret a natural fit for the Casita.

For the flooring, Justina is exploring two of our hardwood collections: Silvan Resilient Hardwood and Provence Natural Hardwood. Both bring the warmth, texture, and natural beauty of real wood, with distinct qualities that make the final decision part of the design process.

Whichever makes its way into the finished Casita, it reflects a shared belief that the materials in our homes should do more than look beautiful. They should feel good to live with, be thoughtfully made, and bring something real to the spaces they inhabit.

A Foundation for What Comes Next

The Casita is still a dream in the making, and so is the final design. But its purpose has been clear from the beginning: to create a home rooted in creativity, care, connection, and family.

Flooret is proud to be part of its foundation and we can’t wait to share which floor Justina chooses, along with the finished Casita, when the project comes to life.

    Stay tuned for the reveal.
